Cities in the Mountains
After wars with neighboring countries, a part of the Amazon spreads into Ecuador, a major tourist attraction. Besides Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca are the main colonial cities nested in Ecuador. These places hold national events, fairs, and other related entertainment. They are all surrounded by mountains and hold treasures such as sculptures, paintings, and carvings. Guayaquil is marked by the fire from which it was rebuilt and the Santa Ana hill covered in colorful houses. Other tourist attractions are the Malacon seafront promenade covered in bridges and sailed by all sorts of boats. The oldest church in the city is called Santo Domingo. The Plantas and Salinas resorts are very popular, overlooking the ocean.
Cuenca is not far from Quito, and is known as the most beautiful city in Ecuador with it's many colonial buildings. Lakes offer places for fishing and boating, and Inca ruins lie not far from the city.

Andes Mountains
The Andes mountains run north to south along the western coast of South America. The latitude is 10 degrees north to 57 degrees south. The longitude is 70 degrees west to 80 degrees east. This mountain range is the longest and one of the highest in the world. They stretch 4,500 miles. The Andes are separated into three parts, the southern, central, and northern regions. The northern region is hotter, as it is closer to the equator. It is full of rain forests because of the humid, rainy seasons. The southern region is colder. The central region is more mild and contains the largest herb in the world, puya raimondii. The Andes mountains are home to many species of birds, including the condor and andean flicker.
Galapagos Islands
These islands lie of the coast of Ecuador and are a popular place to snorkel, hike, and watch the diverse wildlife on the land and the beaches. Only a certain amount of people are allowed on the island when cruises venture out around the blue waters surrounding the islands. This was the place where Darwin first discovered the idea of evolution by looking at how creatures adapted to live on different islands.
